Jiuzhaigou hotels: 6 places right by the gate, under 15 minutes on foot

ChowWritten by Chow · Updated 10/2026 · 5 min read

I only have one criterion when filtering hotels in Jiuzhaigou: you can walk to the gate in the morning, no need to call a car. I stayed at Starry Sky Hotel and found it great value, but it's not the only choice. Below are 6 Jiuzhaigou hotels less than 1.5 km from the gate. I review each one in detail on several criteria, with real pros and cons, so you can compare before you book. Let's start!

Part of the independent Jiuzhaigou travel guide. If you want to understand the lodging areas before picking a specific hotel, read where to stay in Jiuzhaigou.

Why choose a hotel near the Jiuzhaigou gate?

  • In peak season (1/4–15/11) the gate opens at 7:30. Queue early to make sure you're among the first groups on the bus: the sights are less crowded, and in one day you can use your time best to see as many places as possible.
  • Early in the morning taxis and shared cars are very hard to get in this area, and prices get inflated.
  • Coming back exhausted in the evening, a 15–20 minute walk to your bed feels totally worth it.

What would I pick if I went again?

  • As a couple who wants comfort: YOUJIA. Mountain-facing rooms with a bathtub, and you can see the Jiuzhaigou entrance when you open the glass door, with tea in the afternoon and a massage room in the evening. If you're sensitive to noise when sleeping, choose Vienna Hotel instead: a new hotel with praised breakfast and a gym.
  • On a budget, with friends: Starry Sky Hotel, the cheapest on the list, with heated mattress pads and heating/cooling air conditioning. Remember to book Standard or higher to avoid the attic rooms. If your group likes hanging out in the evening, Private Enjoy Travel Hotel is also a good fit: it has a card room, BBQ, and a hotpot place downstairs.
  • As a family with older people: Homeinn · neo, a new chain hotel with spacious family rooms, self-service washer and dryer, and across the road the pickup point for the bus to Huanglong and the station. If you go in the warm season, JI Hotel is also fine (breakfast is free for children under 12), but in the cold season think twice because the air conditioner only cools.

Autumn booking tips

  • Book your Jiuzhaigou hotel early from 1–2 months ahead for the peak season in October and November: prices rise week by week and rooms are likely to sell out.
  • Ask clearly whether there's heating or warm air conditioning: nights here are close to 0°C, and a room without heating is miserable.
  • Ask whether the hotel does station pickup. It saves quite a bit of hassle. Compare with the do-it-yourself options in the article from Huanglong Jiuzhai Station to Jiuzhaigou.
  • Before you book, tap "View on map" on Trip.com to measure the real distance to the gate. How to do it is in the article where to stay in Jiuzhaigou.

Frequently asked questions

Which Jiuzhaigou hotel on the list is the cheapest?

Starry Sky Hotel, about 600,000₫ – 1,600,000₫/night (about 150 – 405 yuan), usually 1,400,000₫ – 2,900,000₫/night in peak season. It is also where I stayed on this trip.

How far ahead should I book a room?

In peak season, October – November, book 1–2 months ahead, since prices rise week by week. For example, JI Hotel booked more than 3 months ahead starts from about 1,600,000₫/night, while a last-minute booking under 1 week out can reach 4,400,000₫ – 4,700,000₫/night.

Do the rooms have heating?

It depends on the hotel. Starry Sky Hotel has heated mattress pads and two-way air conditioning, Private Enjoy Travel Hotel has a heater, while JI Hotel's air conditioning only cools, so rooms are quite cold in winter. Before booking, ask clearly whether there is heating or hot-mode air conditioning.

Which hotel is close to where you catch a bus to the station?

Homeinn · neo: across the road there is a pickup point for buses to Huanglong and to the high-speed rail station. Private Enjoy Travel Hotel also has a bus stop right next door.

Which should I choose for a family with small children?

Homeinn · neo has spacious family rooms and self-service washers and dryers. JI Hotel offers free breakfast for children under 12, a good fit if you travel in the warm season.

Staying near the gate has one more perk: you can walk to yak hotpot in the evening. See the place I like in the article Jiuzhaigou yak beef hotpot. The rest of the trip (trains, tickets, itinerary) is in the 2026 independent Jiuzhaigou travel guide.
