Jiuzhaigou park shuttle bus: route map and stops

ChowWritten by Chow · Updated 10/2026 · 5 min read

These are tips for getting around by shuttle bus in Jiuzhaigou, for anyone traveling independently for the first time without Chinese. Save this post so you don't feel lost in the sea of people.

Part of the independent Jiuzhaigou travel guide. If you want to know which lakes to visit, see the one-day Jiuzhaigou itinerary.

Note: The tips below are from my real experience on 17/10/2026. After checking more sources, I found that how the buses run and how you switch between branches isn't always exactly the way I describe, and it can change by day and crowd size. So please treat this post as a reference of experience.

Jiuzhaigou is Y-shaped: just remember the 3 branches

Jiuzhaigou is vast and Y-shaped, made up of a left branch, a right branch and a central branch (the stem of the Y) leading out to the gate. The meeting point of the 3 branches is the central stop Nuorilang. Once you grasp this pattern, getting around Jiuzhaigou is extremely easy.

The park shuttle bus ticket is bought together with the entrance ticket (90 yuan in peak season, 80 yuan in low season), valid all day, with unlimited hop-on, hop-off. You can book this ticket on Trip.com's Jiuzhaigou ticket page, with a step-by-step booking guide in the article book Jiuzhaigou tickets online with your passport.

1. Setting off: the earlier the quieter

  • In peak season Jiuzhaigou opens at 7:30 (8:30 in low season), but from 7:00 the queue is already packed. To take it easy and have more time at the sights, be in line by 6:45 – 7:00.
  • Scan your passport to enter, then go to the stop for the shuttle bus. On the day I went, every bus leaving the gate ran straight through to the Nuorilang central station (Nuorilang Central Station).

2. The key point at Nuorilang central station

The bus stops here for a few minutes. This is when you decide which branch to do first:

  • Left branch first (I suggest doing it this way): just stay seated, no need to get off. The bus continues straight up to Long Lake at the top of the left branch.
  • Right branch first: get off at Nuorilang and go into the central station hall, following the signs for the right branch lane (toward the Primeval Forest) to line up for the right branch bus.

To switch from the left branch to the right branch (or the other way), ride back to the Nuorilang central station and line up for the other branch's bus. The queue for the right branch bus is right next to the Nuorilang Restaurant area and the ChaPanda bubble tea shop. Just follow the signs that say 原始森林 / Primeval Forest (primeval forest) and 诺日朗餐厅 / Nuorilang Restaurant as in the photo below, and you're there.

The order of visiting the lakes on each branch is written up in detail in the one-day Jiuzhaigou itinerary.

3. Taking the Jiuzhaigou park shuttle bus without speaking Chinese: look at the map and count the stops

The speaker on the bus announces stop names in Chinese, which sounds like an alien language. Then use this method:

  • Open the map I attached (or take a photo of the map at the gate). On my map, each white circle with a black outline is 1 bus stop. On the printed map handed out at the gate, each blue square is 1 stop.
  • Then just count how many times the bus stops to get ready to get off. For example: going down the central branch from the Nuorilang central station, you want to reach Sparkling Lake (Sea of Sparks). If the map shows it's the 5th stop from Nuorilang, count until the bus's 5th stop and get off.

This works very reliably, with no fear of missing your stop or getting off at the wrong place.

Important note about exit time

If during the day you have an appointment with a private car or need to catch the bus out to Huanglong Jiuzhai station (Huanglong Jiuzhai Station), you must be out through the gate before 16:30.

From 16:30 on it's rush hour as everyone leaves, crowds pour out and traffic near the gate gets seriously jammed. Just a small delay and you can easily miss your ride and then your high-speed train too.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Jiuzhaigou park shuttle bus ticket?

The bus ticket is bought together with the entrance ticket: 90 yuan in peak season (1 Apr–15 Nov) and 80 yuan in low season (16 Nov–31 Mar), about 360,000₫ and 320,000₫. The ticket is valid all day, with unlimited hop-on, hop-off.

Can I walk instead of taking the bus?

The bus ticket is mandatory when you buy the entrance ticket. The park is very large, so you can only walk the boardwalks between lakes that are close together, while the long stretches between branches still require the bus.

If I don't speak Chinese, how do I know which stop to get off at?

Open the Jiuzhaigou bus stop map at the top of the article (or the printed map handed out at the gate), see how many stops your destination is from where you board, then count the times the bus stops. The detailed method is in section 3 above.

How do I switch from the left branch to the right branch?

Ride back to the central stop Nuorilang, then queue at the boarding lane for the other branch. The right branch boarding lane is next to the Nuorilang restaurant.

What time should I head out of the gate?

If you need to catch a bus to Huanglong Jiuzhai Station, leave the gate before 16:30 to avoid the rush hour. Jiuzhaigou stops admitting visitors at 14:00 and closes at 18:00.

If you have time, don't skip Reed Lake on the central branch and the Primeval Forest at the end of the right branch, two places many people rush past. The full guide from the moment you leave Chengdu is in the 2026 independent Jiuzhaigou travel guide.
